“I started to learn how to be comfortable in my skin and who I was while creating life moment pictures.”
Mirian is a Marketing student at UH. She loves anything fashion, boba and her dog, Yuki. (Head to the Gallery to meet her!)
Alison: Please introduce yourself.
Mirian: Hi, I’m Mirian and I’m currently studying Marketing at the University of Houston. My family is from Taiwan but I grew up in Houston and I love it here! On the side of being a student, I am also interning at Swiggard Creative as their Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern. When I have any downtime, I enjoy going to the gym, trying out new food places, and spending time with my dog, Yuki.
Alison: I’ve been following your Insta (@mintymomentss) for quite a while now and I’m honestly very impressed by the content you’ve created so far. Tell me, when did you start blogging?
Mirian: I started blogging last year in January. 2020 marks my one year as an influencer!
Alison: Happy anniversary! What are your favourite works so far?
Mirian: There are so many photoshoots and collaborations I have done, but if I had to select a few of my favs, it would be my work with Neutrogena. Neutrogena has always been one of my go-to drugstore brands before my blog started. This collaboration was significant to me because it hit me that @Mintymomentss was going somewhere.
Alison: Can you describe some pros and cons of being so active on social media?
Mirian: My biggest pro would be that I can build my confidence through blogging. As weird as this sounds, social anxiety is a thing. Even though I put my life on the internet, I had always been an introvert and am on the more reserved side, which I still am today. However, creating content means photoshoots and taking pictures in public. I started to learn how to be comfortable in my skin and who I was while creating life moment pictures.
As for a con, being active on social media has its negative side. There are times that I am way too focused on capturing the picture-perfect moment that I forget to enjoy myself and the experience.
Alison: Do you have any tips for aspiring content creators or bloggers?
Mirian: Three tips –
- Be true to yourself!
- Stick to your work, and keep doing it. Even if you didn’t achieve the numbers you would like to have, trust the process. Your time will come!
- It’s okay to have a creative block. Take a week off and reset!
Alison: Moving on, could you tell us about your internship experience at Swiggard Creative?
Mirian: Swiggard Creative is a digital marketing and creative agency here in Houston! Most businesses come to Swiggard Creative looking for experts in social media marketing, and Swiggard executes social media strategy and management for a wide range of local and national businesses. From brand-customized visuals and content creation that converts, to brand communication strategy and more, Swiggard bridges the gap between reality and the digital world for brands, personalities, and businesses alike.
Alison: How long have you been interning at Swiggard?
Mirian: I have been interning at Swiggard Creative for about 5 months.
Alison: Can you give us a brief reflection on the experience?
Mirian: A brief reflection on my experience as an intern? Let’s ditch the word “brief” and just make it as a reflection as an intern because it has been so amazing. I am so grateful to be in this position to learn from leaders in the industry and gain hands-on experience in a field I’m very passionate about. My tasks and projects change daily, which makes it fascinating and challenging. There are many aspects behind the works and content made for a brand so I’m glad I’ve been able to get insight on that.
As a reflection on my personal growth, I think this opportunity has taught me a lot about work, meeting deadlines, and challenging myself and my creativity so that I look forward to seeing how I’ll be able to apply what I’ve learned in the future.
Alison: Can you see yourself working a regular job in the long term or would you consider becoming a full-time blogger?
Mirian: Why not do both? Both worlds have their pros and cons but personally, my blog started as a hobby. @Mintymomentss was first created for the sole purpose of being a digital space I can escape to, to be creative and be myself. At the end of the day, I still wish to pursue my career and continue learning all aspects of digital marketing while keeping my blog as a hobby. I truly believe that you shouldn’t make your blog into work because that would only end up in stress and a creative block. There should be a balance to everything.
Alison: You’ve got a point, Mirian. Thank you for sharing with us, and good luck!
